1992 Volkswagen Jetta – Euro Headlight conversion project

In the beginning there were crappy headlights. When both glass reflectors suffered rock chip holes, the replacement cost was quoted as being $225 per side – to have the same lousy headlights. There had to be a better system for that kind of money.

Why not use the standard Jetta Euro Conversion kit? The only problem was the grille – it was a lousy fit and one of the H4 bulbs was bad. In addition, there was no place for the VW badge.

The supplier (Bow Wow Auto Parts) responded with a new and better version of the grill, wiring goodies, loads of replacement parts, and everything fit properly. The net result of two days work (and a very large bill for professional shop time) is a great new look and headlights that are without question the best I’ve ever had – in a word, they’re fabulous! The large outer units are standard 7” Hella H4 lights while the inner units are 5” Hella H1 lights.  The next step might be to convert the 5” units to 100 watt bulbs – to make the road literally sizzle with light.
